I exercise in the morning before I go to work. It gives me energy and wakes me up. Keeps me more alert than a cup of coffee would.

My husband says that if he exercises late in the day, it tires him out and makes him sleep.

He's invited me to go to the gym with him in the evenings, but I'm afraid that if I do I might be awake all night.

If I did exercise after work, it would mean that I could get into work earlier, which would be a good thing.

I do take an evening salsa class once a week but it is not very strenous exercise.

When do you exercise, and how does it affect your sleep patterns?

Hey Marcia,

I train right after work… I start work at 6:30am so I don’t really have time to go before. I find that it does give me more energy so I’m not the type of person that can workout at night.

I do take a gymnastics class every Wednesday night that goes from 7pm-9pm and I find that on those nights I have problems falling asleep, unfortunately it’s the only time they offer the class so I have no other option.

Everyone is different so you could always give it a shot one night with your hubby and see how you feel; if you have problems falling asleep then I’d probably just stick with your morning workouts…

Hey Marcia,

I currently do shiftwork at my job. My shifts changes from days to evenings to graveyards. During evenings and graveyards, I like to work out around 10am to 2pm. I have noticed lately when I am on dayshift that I have had trouble sleeping at night. So I have to take a nap for a bit before heading to the gym, which leads to me not sleeping well later.

I agree with Marlaena. You should try it out and see how your body reacts to it. Try it for more than one day to see if your body adjusts. Lately, from listening to the signs my body gives me, I've noticed that I am more energetic, happier, not so easily stressed, and so on. Crossfit and weight training has helped a lot.

Hope that helps!
