A female friend and I are both trying to lose weight but are not getting results. We have been working out consitently for a month 3-5 days a week and hiking or rock climbing at a indoor gym on the weekends. I broke my calcaneus 2 years ago and have some range of motion issues in my right subtalar joint. She uses the treadmill and I use the eliptical. should we both be on the same beginner workout.

Are you not able to run at all or you just prefer the elliptical?
Can you use the rowing machine or stairclimber?
And when you two are at the gym, what does a typical workout look like.. mostly cardio, some weights, abs and core?

I'm unable to run the only other options are elliptical or bike.
Typical work out is around 30 minutes on treadmill and elliptical. Lat pulldowns , bench press , butterflys, side plank, squats, lunges, and crunches. 3 sets of 12

Make sure to mix it up between the bike and elliptical and try to throw in the odd hill interval, timed interval and sprinting interval if you can.
Also, when you're lifting weights, stick to full body workouts. I'd suggest you try out either the beginner strength and conditioning program or the intermediate fitness program, you can find them both in the training programs section.
Training Programs
They both consist of 3 full body workouts each week that are designed to burn calories, improve conditioning and increase overall strength.

That's awesome, congratulations!!!
4 lbs is quite a bit a weight to lose in a week though so don't expect to hit big numbers like that every time you jump on the scale.
Keep up the hard work! :)
