Advanced Quadriceps Exercises with Medicine Ball
The quadriceps (quads) are a group of four muscles on the front of the thigh. They allow your knee to straighten and provide stability when standing. Your quads are the most important muscle group for maintaining the ability to stand and to walk independently.
It is also believed that arthritis pain can be relieved by strengthening the quadriceps muscles which takes pressure off the knees.
A medicine ball (also known as an exercise ball, med ball, or fitness ball) is a weighted ball roughly the diameter of the shoulders (approx. 14 inches). Medicine balls come in a variety of weights from 2lbs. to 30lbs. and can be made of hard plastic, dense rubber or synthetic leather material.
The medicine ball is one of the oldest strength and conditioning tools and is used in a variety of exercises to improve explosive power and increase strength. The medicine ball is also used quite extensively for core conditioning.
The single leg deadlift with medicine ball shoulder press is an advanced compound exercise. This is a very challenging exercise that targets the hamstrings, core and shoulders. This exercise requires a great deal of balance and should only be performed by advanced fitness levels.
