CrossFit Gymnastics Certification
Marlaena and I attended an awesome gymnastics certification this past weekend. It was so much fun and something that I wish I had done ten years ago! The seminar was hosted by CrossFit Vancouver and instructed by Jeff Tucker from GSX Athletics. It was held over two days and each day ran about 8 hours or so. I was pretty tired by the end of the second day but I absorbed so much information and learned so many new skills and spotting techniques that it was well worth it!
We started the weekend off with a thorough full body dynamic warm-up. After that we moved on to some basic gymnastics skills like knees to elbows, the roll-up, skin the cat and the back and front lever. Most of these movements were new to me but I managed to pick them up fairly quickly which was nice. I had trouble with some of the more advanced movements but have all the progressions for them so will be working on them all as much as time will allow!
The second day focused on pull-ups, kipping pull-ups, muscle-up progressions, various skills on the parallette bars and hand stand progressions. I really wanted to work on my handstand so I paid extra close attention during that part of the seminar! I think it would be so cool to be able to some handstand push-ups without any support from a wall. I'm nowhere close, but at least now I know how to get there!
All in all it was a great weekend and I definitely have a greater appreciation for high level gymnasts! Jeff Tucker was a real straight shooter and an excellent instructor. I learned a bunch of awesome new skills and had a lot of fun! I would strongly recommend this course to anyone that has a chance to take it. We liked Jeff so much that Mar and I are planning on going down to Texas to train with him at his gym in the new year!
